Hi Matt,

As a very new teacher in Fairfax County in 1990, my Title I Reading teacher and I were awarded a grant to go up to Vermont to meet with 3 schools around their implementation of Portfolios. This article reminds me of that long ago time. We brought the information back and presented it. Fairfax put portfolios in place the following year. Your interview and the information you’re sharing are relevant and continues to match my beliefs and commitment to portfolios. Sadly, none of the Northern VA counties I now work with through my University support such work…

This also reminds me of another instructional technique I loved that is no longer in place- Dialogue Journals… I’m getting quite old!!!!!

P.S. Tjis has nothing to do with portfolios… when we were in Vermont, one day it was a torrential downpour and we were trying to get to a school. We suddenly came to a large tree down across the road. My friend and I sat there looking at each other, ready to cry…when a native Vermont tru ck driver pulled up behind us. He jumped out of his truck with a chain saw and cut the tree into pieces!

We loved Vermont!!! 🧡💛💗🧡💛
