Engagement From the Start

Newsletter

This week we take a deeper look at literacy engagement.

  1. I am rereading Austin Kleon’s Keep Going: 10 Ways to Stay Creative in Good Times and Bad. Funny, wise and easy on the eyes + mind.

  2. We can blur the lines between social-emotional learning and literacy with thoughtful, responsive instruction that positions students at the center.

  3. Check out “Recovery Will Take More Than Money” - a thought-provoking essay by Mike Gecan (The Nation) on the need for individuals to come together and engage in community-minded action in light of widespread governmental failure.

  4. An Appointment with Ourselves

  5. Engaging Literate Minds update: An interview with two of the book’s authors, plus a simple lesson structure to prepare for responsive instruction.

All proceeds from new subscriptions for the month of May will be donated to No Kid Hungry and my city’s local food pantry, in response to the pandemic. Your generosity and readership are appreciated - be well!
