In this week’s newsletter, we re-examine the role of technologies in our personal and professional lives.
This week I reflected on my digital declutter via video here (free for all) and in writing here.
This experiment with Twitter and my phone came from Digital Minimalism: Choosing a Focused Life in a Noisy World by Cal Newport. The author writes regularly on his blog; also check out his New York Times op-ed on the iPhone.
It isn’t the first time I’ve questioned the value of digital connections in my professional life. In 2013 I shared my thoughts on the usefulness of Twitter for professional development.
I am not anti-technology, just against mindless adoption. Three interesting tools introduced to me include CoSpaces (make AR & VR in the classroom, h/t Micki), Brains on! (a podcast for kids, h/t Livia), and Loom (screencasting).
A creative, analog writing idea from Austin Kleon: My decade in a zine (you could do “My year in a zine” to cover 2019 only or a school year in May/June).
Thanks for reading! For further reading about learning in a connected world, check out my two books on classroom technology integration here and here. And to support this newsletter, subscribe below.
