The Art of Reflection

Newsletter

This week we examine the importance of taking time to reflect on our work and learning.

  1. Without reflection, we can create negative narratives about the outcomes of our experiences, which I write about in this post.

  2. Traditional tests can only tell you so much. In this article, we consider more authentic assessments that include reflection and less standardized testing.

  3. Sometimes our help is not always helpful, note Jan Burkins & Kim Yaris in this blog post about wait time for encouraging thinking and reflection.

  4. Gail Boushey and Allison Behne share their insights behind the teacher-led improvements for the CAFE approach to conferring in this podcast. (h/t Ryanne)

  5. How our choices reflect our beliefs and values. (subscribers only)

I’ll be hosting the first of a three-day workshop series on leading like a coach in Fennimore, WI on Monday, February 24. We will learn about five strategies for building a schoolwide literacy culture. Sign up here and bring a team!
