Matt,

This sounds familiar. Adopt an already-made curriculum from publishers, then figure out what is wrong with it. That is like putting the cart before the horse.

I can see how adopting an ELA curriculum program wholesale, without any room for adaptation, is an avoidance strategy. We are avoiding having candid conversations about the unmet needs of our students in part due to outdates practices and beliefs. I was pleased that this team chose to engage with their current reality and be honest with each other about what their kids needed.
