My preferred state is coaching into practice, where I engage with teachers around the immediate needs and interests within the classroom. This feels especially necessary today with our current challenges.

This is my preferred state. As the dust hopefully settles with the pandemic and we have more mental bandwidth, I hope I can connect with teachers around coaching for transformation more often. These days we are confronted with significant institutional issues that need to be addressed, for example inequities within our literacy curriculum.

I also appreciate this quote from the brief as it describes the dynamic nature of working with unique teachers and classrooms: "If literacy coaches feel confused, conflicted, or uncomfortable, then they are in that growing space somewhere at the intersection of these models." Holding these tensions for myself and others is uncomfortable at times, but a place I need to be.

I think that coaching to transform is necessary for either new teachers or teachers who have been in the classroom for a long time and have stagnated in growth. Coaching into practice is the preferable one for most teachers, however.
