"compliance and an artificial sense of control" - wow! This line turned on a lightbulb for me as I continue to question my thoughts around why I am being driven to promoting scripted sameness vs. authentic learning experiences. I've continued to share in PD sessions that authentic assessment and engagement is possible regardless of the platform for instruction, but my mind keeps wandering back to the ease that simplified programs bring. And there's that word once again- control. During this seemingly never-ending loss of control, old mindset habits make me crave it again. Instead, I will press on with promoting collective teacher efficacy- because we CAN do this!
This is a challenge for administrators as well. We feel a sense of urgency in achieving outcomes, yet we have to step back enough if we want true change to occur. I appreciate you sharing your perspective, Jamie. Good luck with your continued work! -Matt
