Happy Monday! This week's focus is on assessing reading engagement and identity.
📚 PROFESSIONAL STRATEGY
During classroom visits or reading conferences, use these three questions with students to gain insight into their reading identity:
"What kind of reader are you?" (Reveals self-concept)
"What was the last book you couldn't wait to get back to?" (Reveals engagement)
"Who else in here would love that book?" (Reveals social aspect of reading)

🌱 PERSONAL TIP
This week, notice which readers persist through challenges because they're motivated by interest versus which ones give up more quickly. Invite one of them for a “reader’s chair”, where you interview them in front of their peers to share their strategies for success. Students can be highly effective teachers for their peers.
