Top 5 Books I Want to Read in 2020
In my newsletter on Saturday, I shared my top five books I read in 2019. Here are a few titles I am looking forward to reading in this upcoming year.
The Dinner by Herman Koch (staff lending library)
Readers either seem to love it or hate it on Goodreads. It's compared to Gone Girl and Defending Jacob. I enjoyed both, so I'm optimistic for this one.
Scythe by Neal Shusterman (public library)
This is the first of three books in the Arc of a Scythe YA series. My 7th grade son has requested I read it to him.
Ava and Pip by Carol Weston (public library)
I am not sure how this title ended up on my to-read list but my 5th grade daughter now wants me to read it to her.
Less by Andrew Sean Greer (Kindle)
My wife read this book and recommended it to me. Not a title I would likely select on my own. However, she's stingy with her ratings on Goodreads, so for her to give it "five stars" tells me I shouldn't pass it up! (It also won the Pulitzer Prize for fiction in 2018, so there's that.)
The Nickel Boys by Colson Whitehead (staff lending library)
Whitehead's The Underground Railroad was impressive; I read it a month ago. This story, based on real events of two boys in a Florida reform school during the Jim Crow era, appears to be equally important.
