This may seem small, but our cat caught a mouse in the backyard while I was trying to host a staff meeting on Zoom. At first I was a little frustrated when my son came in to announce to anyone who would listen to what our orange tabby Steven had done. But we had a good laugh about it. "Better in the cat than in your house," one teacher commented. The staff could see me in a normal and not-so-perfect light, which can be affirming - no one has this figured out and we are doing the best we can given the circumstances.

I'm close to my nieces who live about two miles away from me in Tulsa. Julian is a junior in HS and I've been her writing buddy for quite a few years. I've always LOVED our writing time and I've really missed it since she doesn't have any writing assignments. Her sister is a freshman and hasn't been as enamored with writing. But this week she got a writing assignment and asked me to be her buddy. I can't even described how much I loved that time thinking about writing. Totally a blessing.

What a nice opportunity that may not have happened otherwise, Mary. She's lucky to have you as her writing partner. What is the assignment? I hope she has some choice within the task.

It was a book review and while I was surprised that it was very specific in the design, it did allow her to share her honest thoughts about the book (Chains). She has mixed feelings and so we explored what those were. Honestly, for me the best part of writing is talking it through first so I allowed me to learn about the book from her perspective (I loved that I hadn't read it) and what she like and didn't like). I think it was especially meaningful to us both during this time.
