Dear Matt,

Thank you for this update. I’m sorry to hear about the dark side of Substack and appreciate your diligence and commitment to “good.”

I’m so glad you are a year out from your stroke and still remember how shocked I was when you told us.

Cheers to your commitment to yourself and thus, to those who love you as well!

Stay committed and healthy and happy, Matt!! Your contribution to literacy and leadership is sooo appreciated!! ♥️

Take care,

Joy

Matt, an 'ikigai' move in turning off the paid subscriptions 👏

Just over a year ago blood clots on my lungs triggered a similar re-evaluation of ones priorities. I wonder if, when you're in spinning plates and juggling mode, aka principalship, it takes a crisis to create the conditions necessary for clarity, to jolt you out of the cognition groove you're in?

Milton Friedman: “Only a crisis - actual or perceived - produces real change."

Keep writing for us

I appreciate and admire you for sharing such a personal post. As a dear friend and colleague, I have been witness to some of the thoughtful changes you've made in your life. Re: the Substack info you share, I had no idea about some of the dangerous voices that platform has supported. So good for you for standing up for integrity and justice.
